My  Story

EWC Studios started in its infancy in the autumn of the year 2000 when I was living in Northern Utah helping my oldest brother and his new wife after they had both gone back to college. My older brother called me one night and asked me if I knew how to build websites.  I asked why? He said because he and a friend were going to start a sports entertainment company and needed a website. I said no I didn’t know how but I would figure it out.

That night I downloaded a manual about HTML coding and a free HTML editor, and along with my copy of JASC Paint Shop Pro for graphic design I set about learning how to build websites. Within a few weeks I was very competent and had already built the website for my brothers fledgling new company. I went on to be the Webmaster and Art Director for the company for its entire 16 year existence.

The company went through many names and iterations over its first 11 years. But in 2011 I finally got serious about my own graphic and web design entity and my company was officially born in earnest. It started out simply as Ericdwheeler.com, but I wanted something that was less about me and more abut the creativity and would hold true should I end up hiring other designers. So in 2020 I rebranded as EWC Studios LLC and here we are today!

EWC Studios Timeline

EWC Studios started in October 2000 and has gone through several re-brands until in 2020 when I rebranded As EWC Studios with a log refresh in 2022.

2022 and forward

The Current day

In January I began work on www.comcpainting.com, a commercial and residential painting company. It was a full business package with logo, website, business card, invoices, billing and quote forms. I’m happy with it and the client loves it. Late in 2022 I finally decided on the look for the new site and am quite pleased with it. Now its just on to the work of promotion and making clients dreams come true.

2021

A Dormant year

In 2021 COVID had made everything impossible so it was a dormant year in which I redesigned the site but didn’t really promote it. I wasn’t happy with the look, it was too complex and ended up deciding to find a cleaner look for 2022.

2020

I rebranded as EW Creative LLC

I had left Indiana and wanted to completely reset the identity of my company. Ericdwheeler.com had been shut down in April of 2019, and I wanted something short and concise that would allow me the flexibility to grow in other areas of design so I rebranded as EW Creative LLC and here we are today! I built www.bakerwildlifecontrol.com for a pest removal service in the area. I had rescued him from his terrible Wix.com website. A terrible service and they treated him awful, charging him outrageous fees for everything. I got his site redesigned to look much better, deisgned his new logo forms in a few variations for other uses, rebuilt each page by copy and pasting the content because Wix.com would not let him download his data. The site is still active and the company is thriving. He saw a 300% increase in sales after I built his site. Then COVID happened and everything pretty much stopped.

2019

I shutdown EricDWheeler.com after 8 years

I was leaving Indiana and returning back to New York. Wanting to cut ties with the past I completely shut down EricDWheeler.com and only operated the business by word of mouth and via its facebook business page. I left Indiana at the end of June.

2018

I reorganized as Eric Wheeler Graphics LLC

I had moved back up to South Bend from Monticello, Indiana in June and reorganized under a new business identity, Eric Wheeler Graphics LLC., as I was only doing this as a side business at the time and no longer needed to be an Inc.

2017

I put EricDWheeler.com on the backburner as I was working full time for another company

In 2017 I was working full time for another company so I wasn’t really doing any projects but I was just doing digital paintings and artwork on my own time to keep my skills up.

In July of 2017 Maximum Force Wrestling Inc. shut down for good although the public facebook page, Private workers facebook page, and Youtube channel survive to this day as an archive, and way to promote other local and regional pro-wrestling events.

2016

I end my working relationship with Maximum Force Wrestling Inc.

In 2016 I was living in Indiana and being the Art Director and Webmaster for a company 555 miles away was too difficult and I officially ceased my relationship with the company I helped found back in the year 2000. A bittersweet day but it was time. I also built the website www.whatshotbusiness.com, a website that sold turnkey businesses to interested people. I don’t think I ever got paid for it and so I took the site down and told the owner why. It is visible on the Internet Archive should you choose to look for it. I worked on a website project called www.environmentaldna.com and did some graphic design work for their logo, but the company never got off the ground do to lack of start up funding and has had no activity on its twitter accountsince 2019.

During 2016 I was also managing a security company and I built their website www.midwest-protection.com, as well as ran it, wrote the blog and managed the entire workforce, did sales and human resources. I terminated my business relationship with them when I was not paid sales commissions. As of my last check the site has an error that is not letting it display but is still active and the company still exists. I however will not do any work for them. You can view the site I built for them in 2016 on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.

2015

I rebranded to EricDWheeler Creative Services

I was still in South Bend, Indiana at the time. My website address was still officially EricDWheeler.com, but I had reorganized under a new business name, EricDWheeler Creative Services to put out a more professional sounding business name that would accommodate me expanding what I was offering for services.

I designed the entire business identity, logo, uniforms, and trailer wrap for a seasonal festival concession company Sweet Z’s Concessions. The company still runs from April to October each year in the South Central Indian area and are still using the resources I created for them. You can find them on Facebook under Sweet Z’s Concessions.

Maximumforcewrestling.com was also shut down this year and moved over to a Facebook page to run the day to day promotion of the events and company.

2014

I relocated to South Bend, Indiana

In the early part of the year I was partnering with ClickDriven Media Group based out of Syracuse New York and created the websites www.skaneatelesinn.com, www.camelotrestaurantandinn.com. I also built www.theswimacademys.com for a swimming instruction school in Utah. I left that arrangement when I was not paid fully for my work. August of 2014 I relocated from Seneca Falls, NY to South Bend, IN and completely changed the look of my website to be more cutting edge. I agonized for weeks over my new logo but never was fully satisfied with it and I only kept it for less than a year.

2013

My First Official Clients as EricDWheeler.com

In 2013 I helped redesign a site called www.genesisingeniumllc.com, an architectural consulting firm. The owner had relocated the business from Washington State back to New York. This was back in the days of Adobe Flash, so that site no longer functions or is visible on the Internet Archive when you look it up, but the company still exists. I also helped rebuild www.clinictracker.com, a healthcare practice running software, when the developers they had worked with from India had abandoned the project and left them hanging. That site has been revised and redesigned a few times since I completed my work on it, but is still live and exists to this day.

MaximumForceWrestling.com was redesigned in its final form with Joomla CMS and system with a huge host of features. I was really quite proud of it. I have screen captures of the site and most of it is visible on the Wayback Machine.

2012

My First Official Clients as EricDWheeler.com

In 2012 I built the websites www.apehangersgrill.com, a now defunct biker themed barbecue restaurant in California, and www.shopbacktonature.com. a holistic health, essential oils and accessories company which is still operating to this day. The site has long since been redesigned since I built it. So you will have to visit the Internet Archive and look under the snapshots for 2012 to see my work or the screen caps I will provide in My Portfolio

2011

EricDWheeler.com is launched and I strike out on my own!

On August 11th, 2011 I officially incorporated, branded myself and launched my own portfolio website. At this point I had learned Joomla and WordPress for about 5 years and was extremely proficient in the new modern CMS systems, which greatly helped in me expanding my services.

2008-2010

Other Design projects

The years of 2008 through 2010 saw some major changes as well. In 2009 Maximum Force Wrestling moved from Auburn, NY to Buffalo, NY and we switched the site to a Joomla CMS system for the first time. In 2010 I began planning to rebrand my design company into something more serious and professional as now I was a college graduate with my degree in IT and Graphic Design and was planning to work exclusively for myself.

In 2009 I and a business partner tried to start up a social networking company and chat service called The Fenix Project. It included a website, social networking and a chat client both standalone and on the web, with chat rooms etc. However due to personal conflicts and a dissolution of the personal and working relationship with my partner I shut the project down.

In 2010 I shut down the Flash based portfolio website I had been using under its final name of WWDOnline.com

2004-2007

Multiple business name changes

The years of 2004 through 2007 were a lot of upheaval and commotion. I was part owner, Art Director and Webmaster for Maximum Force Wrestling Inc, and their projects took up most of my time. My business name changed from Lightning Designs, to Eweb Design Co. (2003-2004), to EWEB Headquarters(2004-2006), and finally to Wheeler Web Design, or WWD Online (2007-2010). I had also gone back to college at that time and was working full time as a security guard, so my time was either MFW Inc.projects, school work or security guard duties.

2002-2003

More early projects

After the launch of MFWOnline.com I was contracted by the business that hosted our wrestling ring and school, Action Sports & Skate in Mattydale, NY. I built them a basic site as per their request and converted their sign logo to digital for the website. The site was constructed between Late 2002 and early 2003.The company has since ceased to operate and the building was in fact torn down several years ago.

I also changed MFWOnline.com to a Flash (Ah yes remember that?)and HTML Hybrid as was commonplace at the time.

2001

MFWOnline.com and other early projects

My first official project was the website for the sports entertainment company my brother and his friend were starting.  It was MFWOnline.com and ran an HTML version of the site in 2001. I spent the year making custom graphics, logos, and posters for each wrestler in the company. I was a published graphic and web designer!

October 2000

The Genesis and Founding of EWC Studios

Starting after a call from my brother and his friend about starting a sports entertainment company I learned how to code HTML, CSS and learned the basics of web design.  I learned Graphic design through tutorials and source files online with JASC Paint Shop Pro. After that I was off and running.

I officially named myself LightningDesigns.com (the first of many iterations of the company)
